Picking out the proper scuba diving equipment for our needs is very important, and as far as the wetsuit goes, that is arguably the MOST important piece of scuba diving gear that you will be using. So with that being said and done, you will definitely want to buy the right wetsuit for your diving needs. But not to worry, just as long as you take into consideration the important factors of picking a wetsuit, you will be just fine. And you can always go and seek the advice of a diving expert too, which is probably not a bad idea at all.

First of all, the conditions of the water you will be diving in are certainly a very important factor. For example, the temperature of the water that you will be diving in on most occasions, will determine how thick of a wetsuit that you should buy. Likewise, depending on the water you will be diving in, you may have to buy a thinner wetsuit, as this has its benefits as well.

For example, if you will be doing a decent amount of diving in colder water temperatures, you will definitely want a thicker wetsuit for sure. If you do a lot of diving in warmer water temperatures, then you will need a thinner wetsuit. Also, if you happen to be taking scuba diving courses and or lessons, then ask your trainer what they think that you will want as far as the thickness of your wetsuit. It is always a good idea to seek the advice of a professional in the industry, especially since we are talking about some pretty expensive equipment here. Just imagine how horrible it would be to sink a ton of money into something that you ended up not even needing, or that didn’t even fit you properly.

Also, the other important thing to consider when buying your scuba diving gear, is that you will want to go with a wetsuit that is a good fit on your body. Basically you want the wetsuit to be pretty tight on your body, as this will allow less water to get in. The more water you can keep out, the higher your body temperature will stay, since even warm water will lower your body temperature if it comes in contact with your body. The bottom line is that getting the right fit is by far one of the most important factors when trying to pick out the right wet suit for your needs, so be sure to choose wisely.

While the price of the wetsuit you choose should certainly be a factor, it is definitely not recommended that you go cheap on this piece of scuba diving gear, as it is an extremely important component. While it may be rather tempting to buy a cheaper scuba wetsuit, you will probably end up wanting something better later on down the road, so it is probably best that you just buy one that is of good quality right from the start.

One of the most important things you can learn from scuba diving is to wash your equipment and gear. Its very important to maintain your gear to get maximum life span and ensure your gear performs safely when diving.

Washing Station Setup
The simplest way to prepare your washing station is to fill a large bathtub at home which will be filled with fresh water. If no bathtub then a simple hose or sink will work just as well. Many dive shops or resorts will have two tubs; one tub will be water for general gear such as wetsuits and other equipment while the other will be for specialist equipment such as cameras and diver computers and any other sensitive gadgets.

Where possible if your gear has a lot of sand on it is to hose it down before dunking it in the tub.

Regulator
The first thing before you start to wash your regulator is to ensure your dust cap is secure as any water that enters the first stage will cause water to enter the internal parts and cause damage.
Before you replace the dust cap you will need to dry the dust cap and the opening of the first stage. The easiest way is to use your tank to blow air onto the two components and this will dry the parts adequately, alternatively you may use a dry cloth to do the job.

Once this is done you need to place the regulator in freshwater for 5 minutes, avoid pressing the purge button as this will allow water to enter the first stage. It best to rotate any moving parts to ensure there is no salt which in the long run will rust. Once Its been soaked and cleaned hang it up and dry.

BCD
Washing a BCD comes in two parts, the internal and external of the BCD. The external is straight forward and can be dunked and soaked in a tub of freshwater to wash any salt off the BCD.
Step two as mentioned is the internal of the BCD, this will need to be done as small quantities of saltwater will enter while diving, and this will turn to salt crystals which over time will cause the values to malfunction and the internal bladder to tear.

So here is how to do it, Press the deflate button on the BCD and allow freshwater to enter to approximate 25%, afterwards shake the BCD and allow the water the wash around all corners. Once you are happy you have washed the internal the best method is to use the exhaust values to empty the water which at the same time will clean them too.

Now slight inflate the BCD to ensure the internal bladder does not stick together when drying and hang out to dry.

Dive Computer and Camera
Wash your dive computer in clean freshwater and not the same water you have washed your other gear as detergents and sand will damage your sensitive equipment. Soak this equipment for a longer time and press all the buttons ensure there is no salt trapped. If possible brush the surfaces with a toothbrush to hep clean it better, but don’t use on the sensors or lenses area as it could damage it.

Wetsuit, Booties, and Gloves
Your wetsuit, booties, and gloves need to be washed in freshwater and you may also like to add a wetsuit detergent. Submerge the items in the water and turn them inside out too and keep washing until clean. Once clean hang out and allow to dry.

Fins, Mask, Snorkel, and Other Equipment
All other equipment should be submerged in fresh water, dunked up and down until clean and hung up to dry.

Tips: to prolong the life of your gear don’t hang out in direct sunlight as it will make the equipment discolour and reduce the life span.

When selecting a scuba mask it is essential that it fits your face well to ensure that it is both comfortable and leak free. Without a good seal against the face you may spend much of your time clearing the mask of water, while an uncomfortable mask detracts from your diving experience – both lead to enjoying your dives less but because they distract you from your environment they are also potentially unsafe.

Finding a mask that fits your face well is a simple matter and can be tested with the following three-step procedure:

1.	Place the mask on your face but with the strap placed out of the way.
2.	Inhale slightly through the nose so that the slight vacuum holds the mask on your face.
3.	Test the fit by gently moving your head and it should remain in place if you gently try and pull it away from your face.

At the end of this test you will have determined whether a scuba mask fits your face well or not, so now it is time to examine other features.

Style

Most masks on the market today have low internal volume, which means that the mask is more comfortable to use since the diver won’t experience much mask squeeze during the dive. This style of mask is now usual and features a pocket for the nose that protrudes forward of the lenses and as well as low volume the large lenses allow for a wider field of view, but models to look for include Cressi Big-Eyes, although it is not suitable for all face shapes.

Colour

This is purely a matter of personal preference and you may not have any preference at all. The traditional colour for masks, and all dive equipment in fact, was black due to the use of neoprene. These days silicone is used instead for masks, which is more flexible and less susceptible to sun damage. Silicone can be supplied transparent or in a multitude of shades due to the use of colouring agents, but many people still choose black. However, some people claim masks made with transparent silicone give better visibility due to the greater amount of light allowed to enter.

Skirt

High quality scuba masks feature a silicone skirt that thins towards the edge, allowing for a better and more comfortable fit against the skin of the face. Often you’ll see a second skirt inside the upper edge of the skirt that allows a better seal. Its absence at the bottom is to allow water to drain more easily from inside the mask.

Strap

There are many occasions when you’ll need to adjust your mask strap and so ensure that you find the mask easy to adjust. If you wear gloves when diving then make sure you can adjust it quickly and easily with gloves on. And while on the subject of mask straps, remember to always carry a spare – it is one of the more common equipment failures and the lack of a spare may mean you have to remain on the boat when everyone else is enjoying the submarine world.

Those are the most important factors to consider both when buying a new scuba mask or using rental equipment from a dive center. By ensuring a good fit you ensure your own comfort and safety while a combination of the other factors will mean you get many happy years of service from your scuba mask.

Are you are a scuba diving enthusiast and looking for some help deciding what to buy to complete your scuba diving equipment? Well, fret not. We will outline the four major things you must have for a safe and enjoyable scuba diving expedition.

Mask

The mask is a very essential tool to complete your scuba diving equipment. The mask helps you in more ways than one. First and foremost, it takes the pressure off you while breathing. Another benefit of the mask is that it guards your face against any pressure or element underwater. Moreover, it also helps enhance your field of view.

One must take care of a lot of things before zooming in on a particular mask. You must check to see whether the mask is of a size that fits you, whether it is too tight or too lose or just about comfortable. To check that, simply wear the mask before buying. More importantly, if you wear prescription glasses, then you may have to get a mask with prescription lens so you can traverse under water comfortably.

Fins

Any scuba diving equipment is incomplete without the fins. The fins compliment your swimming so that you are able to swim under the water quicker, better and easily. Again, you need to check that the size fits you before you buy.

Wetsuit

The above mentioned tools complement particular parts of your body; however the wetsuit complements your entire body. It not just makes you feel comfortable and warm, it also ensures that your motion underwater is super efficient and smooth like a snake.

Regulator

The word regulator may make you wonder, what’s it got to do with the must-haves list of scuba diving equipment? Whilst you may not be wearing it on any parts of your body, it plays an equally important role as the other tools. The role of the regulator is to manage the pressure and flow of the oxygen. This way you can relax and breathe nice and easy underwater. So don’t even think of venturing underwater, without a regulator.

So go ahead and complete your essential equipment with the above four important pieces. However, there are several other tools that are available and depending upon what you fancy you may want to buy those as well. You can also consider buying discount scuba diving equipment, and all you need to do is some research by spending some time

Colorado is a landlocked state hundreds of miles from the nearest coast, but you can still enjoy scuba diving; Colorado has a number of lakes and rivers that can offer challenge and enjoyment. A Colorado scuba dving vacation is not as far-fetched as you might think. For those who are “hard core” about their scuba diving, Colorado lakes and rivers are just as good as anyplace in the world.

The Town That Drowned

One of the more interesting destinations for a Colorado scba diving vacation is Horsetooth Reservoir southwest of Fort Collins. In 1946, the federal Bureau of Reclamation chose the site of the town of Stout, located along the La Poudre River. By 1949, the dam was completed and Stout, which had been established only seventy years earlier as a camp for stone quarry workers, had to be abandoned. The remains of the town are still under water at the lake’s southern end; with proper training and dive equipment, Colorado scuba divers can enjoy a fine adventure.

Historic Mining

After outfitting at their local Colorado diving gear supplier, scuba diers may wish to head for the high country to the historic mining community of Leadville, where scenic Turquoise Lake is right nearby. The lake offers some excellent opportunities for exploration through scuba diving; Colorado’s mining industry was the heart and soul of the state’s economy for decades. Given the nearby town’s historical significance, who knows what interesting artifacts one might encounter on a Colorado scuba diving vacation?

Getting Your Dive Equipment

Colorado has its fair share of stores that sell proper equipment, staffed by experienced personnel who also offer certification courses. Colorado diving gear suppliers can also give you insight as to where in the state to go. If you have the time and money to go further afield, however, the fine folks at Colorado diving gear supply stores can also arrange scuba diving vacations to other, more exotic destinations as well.

In any event, you will need to be certified before you go scuba diving. Colorado requirements are just as stringent as other places in the U.S., and this of course is for your own safety; you’ll need to know about the normal hazards, safety practices and how to properly use and care for dive equipment. Colorado instructors can take you through this process and help you get ready for scuba diving colorado style.

With normal recreational scuba equipment and breathing normal air we are limited in the depth we can go typically 60m is our maximum due to oxygen toxicity and nitrogen narcosis. To overcome these depths we require special scuba diving equipment, proper training and the correct mixes of gases that we will breathe.

Beyond 40m’s scuba diving turns from a recreational sport to technical diving, and it is very easy for technical divers to approach 200m with closed circuit rebreathers. As we said oxygen toxicity occurs, technical divers overcome this by mixing their gases. Usually mixing helium and oxygen will eliminate the nitrogen narcosis.

Commercial divers can operate to depths of 200m and typically work for 6 hours a day and stay down for a month at a time. This way they do not waste time decompressing every time they come up. To be able to stay down for a month they live in decompression chambers while they are not diving. The compression chambers can be located on the ship or even next the dive location on the sea bed.

The next step beyond 200m is with Newt Suits and these suits effectively bring down the environment with them. With these suits divers can easily reach 300m. The idea behind these Newt suits is they maintain one atmosphere of pressure; this is basically what we breathe on the surface. The advantages are they eliminate most of the dangers related with decompression sickness and nitrogen narcosis. Currently the likes of the US Navy use their own version of a Newt Suit.

If you are thinking about scuba diving, you may be wondering if you can afford the equipment. You may also be wondering if you need a special permit in order to buy equipment.

When you buy scuba diving equipment, there is no permit as such, but the retail shop will probably ask for your diving certification card. This isn’t required on all products you purchase, mainly on the items that would require user training such as the buoyancy compensator, regulators or cylinder tank. As you can understand, if they sell these items to someone that hasn’t used them before, they could ultimately be responsible for someone’s death.

An alternative, and recommended by diving experts, is to first hire your diving equipment before deciding to make a purchase. This will allow you to try and test different makes and brands. For instance, a particular type of regulator may give you jaw fatigue while diving, whereas another type may not. If you had not tested the different brands first, you may have purchased a regulator that was not suitable for you. Another good idea to rent first is to give you the opportunity to talk to other divers about their experiences with the equipment they use. You will normally get valuable tips and reviews from people that are actually using the equipment.

If you are thinking about taking up scuba diving, you shouldn’t worry about the cost of owning your own equipment, as you can rent the equipment from anywhere around the world. The scuba diving school that you will be doing your course through will also provide you with their equipment during the course. This will include all the required gear and not just the regulator, tank and BCD. You will be able to use their wetsuits, mask and snorkel. They will probably ask you to buy your own gloves and boots though.

So take your time and save up each month so that you can buy gear that you have tried and tested for yourself.

The main role of a dive computer watch is to help scuba divers in tracking their dives and maneuvering safely back to sea level. A computer dive watch, is a dive computer compacted into the size of a regular sports watch. Consumer computer dive watches offer the functions of a conventional diving watch in a digital format, but with additional options well in excess of the standard analog timepiece.

Dive computers offer a secondary way of calculating the information that has traditionally been the job of decompression tables. Since a computer can execute continuous calculations based on the partial pressure of inert gasses in the human body, depth of the dive and overall time, the statistical read-out can be calculated in real-time, offering the diver up-to-the-minute info and accounting for changes in the dive schedule.

The actual data fields supported in a modern-day dive computer watch differs from model to model, but a typical computer watch will present the following info in easy-to-read LCD format:

Current depth of the dive
The maximum depth reached in the current dive
The time taken to reach the current depth (minus decompression stops)
Cumulative dive time
Essential decompression stop depth and time
Current water temperature
Climb rate in this dive
Diving profiles (handy when transferring your diving data to a computer)
Time to Fly – the duration a diver must delay before boarding a plane after a dive
Diving history – all data conglomerated in earlier dives
Maximum non-decompression bottom of the last dive
Some modern diving computers can link to a diving cylinder pressure meter, permitting them access to actual gas level readings, this allows them to display data such as gas pressure and remaining breathing time.
While Modern computer dive watches are able to generate an ascent plan on-the-fly, for safety reasons, divers are still urged to plan their dives well in advance and always within the limits of established decompression tables. Unless a dive is disrupted unexpectedly, a diver should always stay with the original plan.

Divers are urged to take the following safeguards to reduce the risk of decompression sickness:

If relying on dive computers, apply a cautious decompression model
Account for common environmental discrepancies that watch might not be programmed to compensate for (e.g. high surface altitude)
Add supplemental deep safety stops when attempting a deep dive
Never be afraid to ascend slower than you need to
Add more shallow safety stops
Spend a long period of time at the surface in between dives
A problem dive computer algorithms have is that absorption of gas and pressurized discharge in the body is not a topic that is understood fully. Another source of error in computer dives is that is that an individual diver’s fitness, health and physiology differs from person to person.
A modern day dive computer watch can offer scuba divers a great deal of additional functionality beyond that a conventional divers watch can offer.

In today’s market, computer dive watches are considerably more affordable and thus, accessible to the average diver than in the days when they were a new item.

While a dive computer watch tends to lack the status appeal of an analog diving watch, serious scuba divers can benefit immensely from having up-to-the-minute data on their wrists. A dive computer is a great investment, even if not used as a primary watch.

If you are into diving as a hobby or a pastime, then perhaps this is the time to buy your own scuba diving flippers and a dive kit. Certainly diving is one of the most breathtaking hobby or pastime because you get to enjoy the underwater world. Seeing and visiting different islands all over the world will never be the same once you get the chance to dive to the underworld and enjoy the different corals and underwater species. It is a life of its own with a magnificent view.

But this hobby can be costly, especially if you do not have all the things needed to dive. What usually happens is that you rent the proper equipment and that will cost more money than buying your own gear in the long run. Renting equipment is a good short term option if you are diving for the first time or on vacation. But if you’re serious about scuba diving, then you have got to have your own dive kit. It will save you a lot of money over the cost of renting.

Scuba diving flippers are widely available online. Most companies do sell diving flippers on the Internet and all you need is search for the site, choose which design you want, pay through your credit card and have it delivered. Of course, there are also stores in your community that sell all the gears and material needed to dive.

Diving equipment may be costly, so you can opt to buy second-hand diving gear. If you know of people who scuba dive, you can ask them if they would want to sell their used diving kits when they purchase new ones. Used diving equipments are far less expensive than brand new ones. You can even buy used scuba diving kits on Ebay! It is important, however, that you check and inspect any used products that you buy. You want to buy diving kits at the lowest possible cost, but you would not want to buy cheap ones with quality and usefulness compromised. So before you buy anything that has been used already, check it thoroughly.

Diving is more fun and exciting if you have your own scuba diving flippers and kit. Even if it would cost you a little more initially, you can actually save in the long run because you will no longer need to spend money renting your scuba gear. So to buy your own is really a good investment to make especially for those who make it a point to dive more than once in year or visit and tour islands.
